Vintage look of Lisbon

April 23, 2015

Lisbon is the type of the city that effortlessly captures your attention and imagination, and I don't think that there is a person out there who visited Lisbon and felt indifferent towards it. The vast river Tejo and the intense sun give sparkling light to every corner of the city which makes an impression that the skies really are bluer, the trees greener and the rooftops redder than anywhere else you (or at least) I've ever been to.

The architecture and urban planning are full of contrasts- from messy neighborhoods of Alfama and Bairro Alto with its steep narrow streets and colorful facades, broad avenues with perfectly lined giant trees of Saldanha and Chiado and vast squares with 18th century imperial architecture of Baixa to Manueline architecture and lively riverside of Belém.

I would say that this city ages gracefully, for its streets, tile facades and imposing buildings are such a colorful and bright sight, whether they're well preserved or run down! And while some parts of the city burst with colors and bright light, some parts glow (especially in the late afternoon) in that golden light which give its streets, tiles and vintage trams the look from the old postcards, as if one traveled back in time.

That gave me inspiration for a series of photos of Lisbon's street scenes and sites, which look as if they were found on old postcards or in our parents old photo albums, and if there wasn't for people's clothing one couldn't really put an exact time frame on them.

I hope you'll enjoy this post!

Šetnja Colmarom je na blogu- nakon tri mjeseca neobjavljivanja (i nedostatka inspiracije), post je možda malo pretjerano poetičan, posljedica godinu dana neputovanja. 💭
